Alcano loses World 8-Ball crown to Souquet

Ronnie Alcano failed to defend his title at the finals of the World 8-Ball Championships in Fujairah City, United Arab Emirates, losing to Germany's Ralf Souquet on Friday night.

The final score was 13-9.

Souquet, a former world champion, wins the tournament's $60,000 championship prize.

Souquet led by as much as 8-5, but Alcano recovered and trimmed the German’s, catching up at 9-8.

Souquet entered the finals after beating Swede Marcus Chamat, 10- 8, while Alcano defeated fellow Filipino Dennis Orcollo, 10-9, to step into the finals.

Alcano had outplayed reigning World 9-ball titlist Darryl Peach, 10-5, Wednesday night to tow two other Filipino bets into the quarterfinal round of the World 8-Ball Championship at the Amir Billiards Center in Fujairah City.

Alcano who failed to become the first player to retain the world crown in 17 years earlier repulsed compatriot Roberto Gomez in the Last 32, pulling off a scary 10-8 win to arrange a Last 16 clash with Peach, who blanked Fahad Mohammadi, 10-0.
